Men Spend, Women Spend too

Recently, a male reader told MoneyQuin that he so loved shopping that he always had a lot of month left at the end of his money every month. This came in response to MoneyQuin’s very direct question to him which was, “Do you like shopping/spending money?”
What more? We spoke to a 200 men and got answers in positive. Though some were not spending too much or very frequently, they assured us that they would love to splurge more often if they earned more. So they are waiting.
You may wonder why we went around asking people if they liked to shop or not. Well, our quest was triggered by all the trolls about “women and shopping” being shared on the internet, TV and movies. Our intelligence sources informed us that men had been spotted shopping at the world’s most expensive places. So we set out with a very direct and simple question to them. And look what we found.
But yes we also tried finding out why there was such a scare alert about women spending money. “Well, most of it just for fun. You see men will be men,” 32-year-old lawyer, Aman Sharma tells us. Ah! yes we know it’s difficult to change in a lifetime.
Recently married, Saket Dutt says, “I knew my wife for a couple of years before we got married. I must say, I’ve seen a marked change in her attitude after marriage.” And he stopped by to add that he misses her shopping trips.
The gist of our small conversations with all the urban, well-settled men was that men liked it when their girls shopped till the world dropped. They felt proud that they were capable of providing the women in their lives with such luxury. But yes, they of course found it sort of soppy to express themselves as it is. Hence all the jokes.
But, guys, women aren’t laughing at this one. Twenty nine year old Akshara says at times she feels guilty when she hears her husband joking about women’s “shopping extravaganza.” She feels at that moment that she should be working and hence shopping with her own money. However, thirty three year old Sameeksha aren’t bothered. “I make sure that I don’t spend beyond capacity,” she says. Now even if her husband jokes about her shopping sprees, she takes it in light vein and shrugs it off. “But it does hurt sometimes that even after being so careful, you are being joked upon,” she says.
Dear men, it’s ok to joke. But your woman comes first. Size up the situation first yet don’t joke too seriously. It’s MoneyQuin, your woman’s pal.
